For the past 40 years, the Advaita Meditation Center has cultivated a lively spiritual community devoted to Advaita and the practice of meditation. For newcomers to meditation, we offer comprehensive meditation instruction through a progressive series of classes:
- Introduction to Meditation
- Mantra Meditation
- Advaita and Meditation
Some participants who have taken these classes and participated in other activities remain involved with the center through our ongoing groups.
If you wish to continue to study Advaita and meditation beyond the classes above, we offer weekly discussion-based classes that you may register for. As a student in one of these groups, you will continue to study Advaita Vedanta philosophy as well as practicing exercises in attention and self-awareness. Weekly meetings also offer the chance to discuss your experiences with others, to ask questions, and to practice meditation regularly within a group. Participation in these groups leads to self-understanding and fulfillment, as well as greater effectiveness and satisfaction in your life.
All our ongoing classes are conducted by dedicated members of the center with many years of experience (learn more about our teachers). As a continuing student, you also are invited to attend weekend meditation retreats, which are offered regularly throughout the year.
A note about service: As a non-profit organization, the Advaita Meditation Center depends on the participation of its members in order to function and thrive. In fact, we have no paid staff and are entirely volunteer-run. Ongoing students are invited to contribute service in support of the center and its activities. There are many ways to contribute and we try to tailor these opportunities to each person’s interests and circumstances. Service is entirely voluntary and offers you a supportive environment in which to try some of the practices learned in your classes.
